Agriculture Program : Deforestation in the Gran Chaco

This event represents the Agriculture Program’s first webinar on agriculture driven deforestation in the Gran Chaco ecoregion. The Gran Chaco is the second largest forested ecoregion in South America after the Amazon and spans four countries (Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and Brazil). It is home to a myriad of ecosystems (open forests, grasslands, wetlands) with unique and endemic biodiversity.

Our guests from the Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina, Sustainable Management and Production Coordinator Dr. Maria Eugenia Periago and Program Coordinator Ulises Martinez, presented on deforestation trends in the Argentine Chaco, the Forest Law and its lack of enforcement, and the countries and companies that source soy and beef from the region.
