Environmental Policy Shifts in Brazil

On February 11 at 10am EST, the Alliance Agriculture Program and the Rainforest Foundation Norway will be hosting a webinar on Environmental Policy Shifts in Brazil. The webinar will cover how Brazil succeeded in reducing deforestation in the past through a robust policy mix and enforcement and changes to these policies that have led to record increases in deforestation. It will also address issues related to the dismantling of environmental governance mechanisms, threats to data transparency and new proposed legislation that can further threaten the integrity of biomes and indigenous populations.

Our speaker will be Adriana Ramos, Coordinator, Policy and Law Program of the Instituto Socioambiental (ISA). Adriana has been working on advocacy to improve social and environmental legislation and policies related to indigenous people’s rights, tropical forests and other ecosystems in Brazil for over 25 years. She is a former NGO representative in the Amazon Fund Guidance Committee, as well as a member of the National Environmental Council of Brazil as elected representative of NGOs in the period between 2002 and 2006, and a member of the Brazilian NGO Association (ABONG) Board of Directors until 2018.
