1. UNICEF: Children’s Rights in Responsible Investments - How to Integrate Children’s Rights into ESG Stewardship Activities
(Health, Education, and Human Rights Program Webinar)
Thursday, July 13, 11:00 am EDT / 4:00 pm BST

Children make up around 1/3 of the world’s population, but are rarely considered a priority stakeholder group for businesses and investors. In this webinar, UNICEF will share insights on material impacts of business activities on children with country examples. The speakers will also discuss what effective actions businesses can take to mitigate negative effects on children through workplace policies and practices. This should give participants insights into potential stewardship activities to improve early childhood development outcomes – to the benefit of children but also societies and economies at large.

Erik Nyman, Senior Programme Adviser (Children’s Rights and Business), UNICEF

Chris Kip, Global Programme Specialist (Children’s Rights and Business), UNICEF

Uwe Schillhorn, Director, Health, Education and Human Rights Program, EMIA (moderator)

1. Health & Safety in Mining (Extractive Industries Program Webinar), held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023

The Extractive Industries Program held a webinar with Halshka Graczyk of the International Labor Organization (ILO). The speaker started with an overview of the fundamentals of occupational safety and health regulation globally and the role of ILO as the standard setter. She then reviewed the principal hazards and risks relevant to the mining industry. The expert concluded her presentation with specific recommendations to investors who want to know how to assess companies’ safety and health policies and practices and where to look for additional information.
